MORE The Save Printer Information with Layout option allows each layout to have a different printer associated with it. DAZzle automatically compensates for the difference between the actual paper size and the printer paper size. That is, by selecting 8 1/2 x 11 inches as the paper size and feeding an envelope, NO unprintable region is present. This means that return addresses, barcodes and images cannot be placed near the edge of the envelope. For example, most laser printers have an unprintable region of about 1/4 inch around all sides of the paper or envelope. However, some printers impose limitations on some paper sizes thereby requiring the selection of a paper size different from the media selection. Normally, select 8 1/2 x 11 inches, letter size, or, if available, the size of paper that matches your media selection. Most printers only support a limited number of different paper sizes, while DAZzle can print on a large variety of sizes. This paper size is not the size of your envelope or label, and the paper size does not have to be the same as your selected media. MORE Select the paper size for your printer. See your printer documentation to find the recommended method for printing envelopes. Not all printers or feed options print envelopes properly. If you print envelopes, you should test your selected feed option to see if the envelope prints correctly. MORE Select the paper feed method you use with the selected printer. The implementation of the Multiple Polynomial Quadratic Sieve is based on code by Paul Zimmermann and Scott Contini, and it is described in the following articles.Īlford, W. It increases the efficiency of the method when one of the factors is of the form k m + 1. The pollard base method accepts an additional optional integer k : ifactor ( n, pollard, k ). If the 'easyfunc' option is chosen, the result of the ifactor call will be a product of the factors that were easy to compute, and one or more functions of the form _c_k ( m ) where the k is an integer which preserves the uniqueness of this composite, and m is the composite number itself. The Flip Click Clock only tells you the time (12 or 24 hour format) instead of alternating between date and temperature. It lights up again when you give a gentle touch, or a cheerful clap, or a magical click of your fingers. With the same sound activated clock system as our other click clocks, the clock display automatically disappears when it’s quiet but still moves perfectly accurate every second. When the Gingko Logo shows on top it means the alarm is off and when the nicely engraved alarm icon shows on top instead it means the alarm is turned on. The technologies built into the Flip Click Clock changes your normal way of using an alarm clock. It’s designed to enhance your whole experience of day to day alarm clock use. The Flip Click Clock is now crafted with natural wood material (Cherry, Walnut, Ash and White Maple) and incorporated with our popular sound activated LED clock system, laser engraved touch control top and the new flip alarm technology. The brand new Gingko Flip Click Clock is the 2nd generation from our 6 years best-selling click clock collection and it has kept the same sharp and clean lines design concept as our cube click clocks. There is a significant difference between the color revolution and digital/high definition revolution: RCA's NTSC system was accepted in 1953 because the new color broadcasts were compatible with the nation's millions of black and white receivers. But the RCA/NTSC Color Television System will soon be phased out because the FCC requires broadcasters to complete the changeover to digital transmission by 2007. RCA's system allowed color images to be transmitted and received on either monochrome or color receivers. There were competing schemes for transmitting color pictures, but in 1953 the RCA "compatible-color" system was accepted as the standard by the FCC. Until 1953 television had been strictly black and white. Memorable television dramas of the era most of them broadcast live included Paddy Chayefsky’s Marty (1955), starring Rod Steiger (Ernest Borgnine starred in the film), and Reginald Rose’s Twelve Angry Men (1954).As television broadcasters and their audiences begin the massive and expensive transition to digital High Definition TV, you might be interested in the last major television revolution: the big change to C O L O R broadcasting in the 1950s-60s. NBC and CBS presented such noteworthy, and critically acclaimed, dramatic anthologies as Kraft Television Theater (1947), Studio One (1948), Playhouse 90 (1956), and The U.S. The programming that dominated the two major networks in the mid-1950s borrowed heavily from another medium: theater. The third network, ABC, turned its first profit with youth-oriented shows such as Disneyland, which debuted in 1954 (and has since been broadcast under different names), and The Mickey Mouse Club. Weaver also developed the magazine-format programs Today, which made its debut in 1952 with Dave Garroway as host (until 1961), and The Tonight Show, which began in 1953 hosted by Steve Allen (until 1957). NBC television president Sylvester Weaver devised the “spectacular,” a notable example of which was Peter Pan (1955), starring Mary Martin, which attracted 60 million viewers. On news programs, in particular, the temptation was to fill the screen with “talking heads,” newscasters simply reading the news, as they might have for radio.įor shots of news events, the networks relied initially on the newsreel companies, whose work had been shown previously in movie studios. Ideas on what to do with the element television added to radio, the visuals, sometimes seemed in short supply. However, television networks soon would be making substantial profits of their own, and network radio would all but disappear, except as a carrier of hourly newscasts. NBC and CBS took the funds needed to establish this new medium from their radio profits. Most of the formats of the new programs newscasts, situation comedies, variety shows, and dramas were borrowed from radio, too. Many early programs such as Amos ‘n’ Andy (1951) or The Jack Benny Show (1950-65) were borrowed from early television’s older, more established Big Brother: network radio. They could also choose between two 15-minute newscasts CBS TV News (1948) with Douglas Edwards and NBC’s Camel News Caravan (1948) with John Cameron Swayze (who was required by the tobacco company sponsor to have a burning cigarette always visible when he was on camera). By 1949 Americans who lived within range of the growing number of television stations in the country could watch, for example, The Texaco Star Theater (1948), starring Milton Berle, or the children’s program, Howdy Doody (1947). Occasionally the AI will refuse do what you tell it to. There are few other dings in this otherwise shiny teapot, too. The storyline of StarCraft wasn't particularly original in the first place, so why should we expect Gameloft’s knock-off to be any better? For instance, if you’re working on your base and your troops come under fire in another area, there's a dedicated on-screen button to zoom straight to that area. The screen is also littered with plenty of useful icons (don’t worry - you can hide a lot of these). It’s standard RTS fare – again, no surprises – but it retains all the compulsiveness usually associated with the genre. Limited resources are farmed from meteorite craters and energy podiums, with drone worker bots used to expand, increase efficiency, and build new factories, structures, and turrets. It may not be quite as good as current-gen titles – with their expansive, blossoming tech-trees – but it's very well put together nonetheless. The base-building mechanics are as good as any old skool RTS you’d find on the PC. The controls aren’t the only surprisingly well-engineered thing about Starfront. But this is actually more a credit to the surprisingly good touch controls than it is a flaw in the Play’s buttons. These controls, while helpful, just don’t seem as fluid, and you usually end up going back to using the touchscreen all the time. The X button returns your camera to your HQ and the touchpads are used to pan the camera and zoom in and out. The L and R shoulder buttons select and de-select all units on screen respectively, which is incredibly useful when you can’t afford to obscure the view of a firefight with your own greasy mitts. The Play’s physical controls have also been introduced in this version, providing a few useful shortcuts. It’s intuitive and simple, and most of the time it works fine. You can select single units by tapping on them or select a group of units by dragging a box around them with two fingers. This hasn’t changed in the Xperia Play version. If there was one thing to be said for the Android and iPhone editions, it’s that they made very good use of the touchscreen when implementing the strategy controls. Luckily, Starfront: Collision does exactly this. Then again, if you’ve been anywhere near Pocket Gamer in the past you’ll know that we tend to turn a blind eye to Gameloft's copycat ways, so long as the game plays solidly. It isn’t so much a gentle nod toward StarCraft II as a giant headbutt. Starfront: Collision ($2.If you’ve been anywhere near an RTS in the past year, you’ll immediately recognise the influences behind Gameloft’s Starfront: Collision. If you’re an RTS fan, or better yet, a fan of Blizzard’s Starcraft games, then you absolutely need to pick up this game as playing an RTS on a touchscreen mobile device like the iPad feels like a dreamed in comparison to using the traditional keyboard and mouse. Not only that, but you’ll also be able to show off your RTS skills to your friends and others online through the game’s leaderboards. The game features 5 different multiplayer maps, each of which corresponds to one of the five different environments in the game. Starfront: Collision HD also allows for up to 4 player multiplayer matches, both local and online through Gameloft Live. Starfront: Collision HD didn’t need much tweaking in our opinion as it just being released on the iPad has gotten us all hot and bothered. The iPad version of the game offers an overall better playing space thanks to the iPad’s additional screen size and the game’s interface has been tweaked to allow for comfortable playing on the iPad. There’s a total of 20 missions to be completed in the game’s campaign mode as well as a skirmish mode which allows you to take the fight to the game’s AI controlled opponents. You’ll mine rare Xenodium crystals in order to build up to 8 different buildings and produce over 10 different units per faction to launch your attack against the enemy. Each faction has their own strengths and weakness and will require players to hone their skill with each of them if they want to be successful. The game has you playing as one of three factions: The Consortium, Wardens and Myriad. Real-time Strategy game fans, rejoice! Gameloft has released its Starcraft-clone, Starfront: Collision HD, onto the iPad.Īs with the majority of Gameloft titles, Starfront: Collision HD uses Blizzard’s Starcraft titles as a heavy reference. I guess it goes to show that things sometime take on a life of their own, as this blog has apparently done. I don't have any growing right now to take a picture of.When I started this blog over eight months ago, I had a list of topics I would eventually get around to. Transplant it into larger and larger pots as it increases in size.Īnyway, there is sometimes soil between the pit and the little plant when you first plant it. This is necessary so that water will focus over the little avocado tree's roots well before draining well when you water it. In the first year, I recommend using a pot just a little larger than is needed to hold the plant and its roots, possibly no more than 10 in tall x 5 in diam at the mouth if using a custom-made one or slightly smaller if using a standard-sized pot. The seedling digests the pit as it grows. I don't recommend using fertiliser at all in the first year. Well drained soil, typically called "cactus blend" or "cactus soil," is great, although everyday "potting soil" will work alright. Leave about a third of the other side of the pit above the soil. You'll know it's ready when the root coming out of the pit is nice and strong and ready to hold the plant, growing at least an inch outside the pit.īury the side down that's where the roots come out. It may take a little longer than 6 weeks for the germinating pit, or seed, to be ready. I don't recommend the toothpick method.Īfter 4 to 6 weeks, occasionally re-dampening the towel, you can bury the pit in a small pot. I suspect you're exposing the pit to too much water.Īfter removing all the flesh from the pit, preferably using your hands and then a cloth to avoid damaging the pit, rinse it thoroughly under warm water and wrap it in a damp paper towel and stick it in an open ziplock bag in a dark place. What you're seeing here, in my opinion, is mold. I have grown avocado trees from pits successfully numerous times. No one's answered you and there are several things I can pass along since I'm a "master gardener" - though that doesn't apply as much here as my experience. Here's another one happily growing after changing the water and scraping off the bumps and white fungus (the brown spots on the roots are where the bumps used to be): Here's the same thing but growing around the roots: Here's how sprouts act when you let the white stuff grow above the water: It's not unlikely some variant of the ziplock bag method is easier on and safer for the seeds, requires less attention and is better overall for growing plants out of those seeds but I like keeping mine in jars with the root system exposed to observe the entire process. Normally they should be placed in soil as soon as the root is big enough (length over 1.5x the diameter of the seed). It needs to be repeated every couple of weeks if you plan on keeping them in a jar. Then I hold the seed under the tap and gently scrape off those bumps and cloudy stuff with my fingers, a cloth or wet paper towel and running water, doing my best not to break anything. What I do is I take out the pit and put it away gently (it's very easy to break the roots and sprouts) and wash the jar thoroughly before I refill it with fresh, clean water. In both cases the seed seems to fight it by abandoning affected sprouts and roots to then grow new ones from scratch or branch off the old ones. There is another thing I figured I need to watch out for, that slows down and eventually kills the seed - white cloud of either mold or fungus, suspended around the root system and climbing the seed above water level. If I remove it, the seed comes back to life. I do not know what that is exactly but I observed that the more of those bumps appear on the roots, the slower the seed develops. From my experience, you can and should remove those from avocado roots. Or maybe there was a compiler bug, and the compiler team fixed that. My theory as to what happened is that some time after I removed Pinball from the product, the C runtime team realized that they had a compatibility bug in the way they set the default rounding mode, and they fixed it. My guess is that it had to do with the default rounding mode established by the C runtime library. NCommander did find a collision detection bug on the Itanium, although that bug was nowhere as severe as the one that existed on the Alpha AXP. And that’s the system that had the broken collision detector. I could test my 64-bit port on a physical Alpha AXP system to validate that it was successful. The team set to work, and we had 64-bit Windows running on physical Alpha AXP hardware long before we had any physical Itanium hardware. The hard part was going from 32-bit to 64-bit. Once you got a 64-bit version of Windows working for the Alpha AXP, it should be a comparatively small amount of additional work to port it to Itanium. The assumption was somewhat validated by experience: The 32-bit Windows code base had been ported to many 32-bit processors, with relatively few architecture-specific issues. The assumption is that most of the effort in porting Windows to the Itanium is in the 32-bit to 64-bit transition, and not in dealing with quirks of the specific 64-bit processor you are porting to. But the Alpha AXP did have the advantage of existing in physical form, so the system could finish booting before the heat death of the universe. Now, 64-bit Windows on the Alpha AXP would never ship. Solution: Port the Alpha AXP version of 32-bit Windows to 64-bit Windows. It’s just that 32-bit Windows used only the 32-bit subset. The Alpha AXP is internally a 64-bit processor.

However, markets are more realistic now."Īshutosh Limaye, associate director of strategic consulting at property consultants Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj, said this happened because developers decided to reformat their large, luxurious projects to build smaller apartments at reduced prices.įor instance, Grande, which had been launched as an ultra-luxury residential project in Noida, was relaunched by its developer Unitech Ltd-now with a major portion converted into smaller flats available at discounted rates. Today, however, the cycle has turned once again, at least in some parts of the country. The situation was exacerbated by falling investor confidence, and from their peak levels in 2007, real estate prices came crashing down by 30-40% during 2009. People became cautious about spending, and were reluctant to invest large sums in buying homes. However, it changed in late 2008, when the global economic slowdown started creating uncertainty over jobs in India as well. But the Indian market was only marginally affected. Instead of hiring a musician to compose a score for the film, Hopper decided to use pre-recorded music from Bob Dylan, The Band, Steppenwolf, and Jimi Hendrix on the soundtrack. It was one of the first films to integrate found music. But of course, he was hip enough to realize, a minute later, that their death was more or less mandatory.” 3. It wasn’t until the end that it took on a genuinely artistic dimension-when it suddenly evolved into an indictment of the American redneck, and his hatred and intolerance for anything remotely different from himself-somewhat to the surprise of Den Hopper: ‘You mean kill ‘em both? Hey, man, are you outta your gourd?!?’ I think for a minute he was still hoping they would somehow beat the system and sail into the sunset with a lot of loot and freedom. “Use the money to buy a boat in Key West and sail into the sunset was the general notion, and that was slated to be the film’s final poetic sequence. “The initial idea had to do with a couple of young guys who are fed up with the system, want to make one big score, and split,” Terry Southern told Creative Screenwriting. One of the most shocking things about Easy Rider is its ending, where both of the leads violently perish. The film's original ending involved Bill and Wyatt sailing into the sunset. And then I think it went a bit far, because I kept seeing movie people vomit.” 2. “When you went to see a movie like Easy Rider and when you saw these guys really smoking grass by the fire, and really the camaraderie was warm, real, and rare, you went, ‘What the hell am I looking at? This has value! This has a completely different kind of value than Pillow Talk,” she said in the documentary Easy Riders, Raging Bulls. Karen Black, who co-starred in the film, agreed with Fonda’s sentiment. We made a movie for these people that didn’t have their own movie.” “Those were not really films of the youth that I had grown into and up with, shutting away the establishment, going on their own. Beach Blanket Bingo? C’mon,” Fonda told The Hollywood Reporter in 2015. “They were making films like Pillow Talk and The Glass Bottom Boat. Easy Rider was made for the youth of the time.īefore Easy Rider, Hollywood was churning out happier films starring the effervescent Doris Day, but Dennis Hopper’s film changed that. Despite a difficult shoot, it launched the prosperous New Hollywood period of moviemaking, and ignited a revolution in cinema that we haven’t recaptured since. Shot on a budget of well under $1 million, the 1969 guerilla film went on to gross more than $60 million worldwide the Criterion Collection referred to the movie as “the definitive counterculture blockbuster.” After filming finished in 1968, it took Hopper one year to edit 80 hours of footage-which included scenes of real drug use and a jaw-dropping conclusion-into a 95-minute feature that premiered at Cannes on May 12, 1969. Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson also starred, and Fonda co-wrote the script with Terry Southern and Hopper, and produced it. Once called The Loners, Dennis Hopper co-wrote, directed, and starred in the Oscar-nominated biker flick about two men riding motorcycles from Los Angeles to New Orleans to Florida during the tumult of the Vietnam-era ’60s.
